Historical photograph of the Dewey Arch in Madison Square, New York, which was erected by the National Sculpture Society in celebration of Dewey's victory at Manila Bay in 1898. Sculpted by members of the Society, the arch was constructed of staff and was meant to be replaced with a more permanent material. However, the funds to replace the work were never raised so on November 13, 1900 the memorial was destroyed.
