On photo mount label: R. Evans. A boy and panther; also known as, The dawn of youth. Brookgreen, S.C., Brookgreen Gardens. Gift of Mr. Archer M. Huntington. Classification number: 282/E92/9151. Accession: 160971.
The group, an interpretation of Kipling's Mowgli, was originally designed for the garden of Frank A. Vanderlip, Scarborough, New York. It was awarded the Watrous Gold Medal at the winter exhibition of the National Academy of Design in 1919. It was placed at Brookgreen Gardens in 1937.
