"Of the many bad pieces of cetological composition there are few more worthless, viewed from the stand-point of to-day, than this pretentious compilation of some fifty closely printed pages of Oken's Isis; even Lacepede's and Chamisso's baseless species, described respectively from Japanese draawings and Aleut carvings in wood, to say nothing of many other purely nominal species, being here formally introduced."
