narwhal pp. 93-107. etymology of the Icelandic word narhual: hual = whale and nar = cadaver, alluding to the fact that this animal is said to feed on cadavers (p. 97). narwhal and skull are figured in plate, copies from Tulpius (1672) facing p. 186.
