Summary:
Study for a relief with five vignettes of figures involved in educational pursuits. Standing in the center there is a nude female figure with a printing press behind her. To the upper right are two figures, one seated female reading a book, the other a male with his proper right arm raised in front of a lightning bolt. To the lower right is a seated male figure with an open book in his lap and his proper right hand reseaching toward a three-masted ship sailing beneath a bright star. To the lower left there is a seated mother telling a story to her young daughter in her lap. To the upper left are two male laborers in conversaton, each dressed in a heavy work apron, one carrying a book in his proper right hand.
