Summary:
Portrait depicting the young Rebecca Mifflin Francis standing beside her grandmother, Mrs. Samuel Mifflin, who is seated in a damask upholstered chair. Both figures look toward the viewer, as the young girl points with her right hand to a book held by her grandmother. The book is a copy of "Emblems, for the Entertainment and Improvement of Youth" (London, 1735). The text of the book reads: "CONJUGAL CONCORD / FELIAL LOVE / LOVE OF VIRT[UE] / DUTY TO [ ]."
