Summary:
The scene depicts a rural road with three Tory soldiers on horseback, one carrying a rifle over his shoulder and one carrying a pistol, as they escort a Patriot prisoner on foot, his shirt torn and his hands tied with a rope. Behind the prisoner are his young daughter and his wife, her apron raised to her face as she blots tears from her eyes. In the distance smoke from a burning building fills the sky.
