Portrait of a man seated at a desk by a window, his body turned to the left, his head turned to face the viewer, his right arm resting on the back of his chair, and his left arm resting on top of his desk. He wears a dark jacket, vest, and bow tie, with a white shirt. On top of the desk there is a quill pen resting in an inkwell. In the background there is drapery and an window with a scene depicting a sailboat on the water.
