Summary:
Standing portrait of George Washington dressed in his military uniform. His proper right hand rests on a cane (now missing). His proper left hand rests on top of his cloak which is thrown over a fasces, the Roman symbol of power and authority. A ploughshare, the symbol of peaceful arts, rests against the fasces.
