Summary:
Relief sculpture contains seven allegorical figures. From the left, the figures are Day, Art, Industry, Truth, Law, Agriculture and Night. Day is a male figure who kneels on his proper right knee and faces the center. He is holding a horn to his lips in both hands. A sun shines around his head and he is nude except for drapery. Art is a standing female who is nude from the waist up. She holds a lyre crooked in her proper right arm. Industry is a Classically draped female figure who holds a gear to her chest in both hands. Truth is a nude male figure who stands in an oval at the center, holding a lamp in both hands to his chest. The letters "LVX" appear above his proper right shoulder and "MVNDI" appears above his proper left shoulder. Law is a female figure in a sleeveless tunic. Her arms encircle a book held to her chest which bears the word "LEX." Agriculture is a female who wears a long skirt and is nude from the waist up. A sheaf of wheat is crooked in her proper left elbow. Night is a seated female figure who faces the center. She holds a horn to her lips in both hands. She wears a long skirt and is nude to the waist. There is a halo of stars around her head. The flanking Day and Night figures represent the morning and evening editions of the newspaper.
