Summary:
A pediment relief depicting the city seal surrounded by scenes of business and industry in New Bedford. On the left side of the city seal is a harbor scene with three-masted sailing ships and barrels of whale oil representing New Bedford's whaling industry. On the right side of the city seal is an industrial scene of mills with smoke pouring from the smoke stacks and in the foreground a railroad locomotive. The city seal in the center of the pediment depicts a cityscape in the background and ships at sea in the foreground.
