Summary:
The sundial consists of a square shaft that rises from the center of an octagonal bench which rests on a twenty foot octagonal base. At the top of the central shaft is a fourteen inch cube adorned on each face with a blue-painted brass sundial gnomon. Atop the cube is a small globe pierced by an arrow and marked by the meridian hour circles. Time is marked with the shadow cast by the edge of the gnomon against the lines on the globe. The octagonal bench at the foot of the shaft is adorned with eight reliefs of marine forms carved one on each seat back. Sealed in the base is a jar containing newspapers and pictures.
