The sculpture depicts the Biblical story of Christ and the Samaritan Woman at the well, flanked on either side by separate figures of St. John and St. Luke. In the central grouping, the Samaritan woman faces the well, and with both hands holds a jug which rests on the edge of the well. Christ sits facing her, on the opposite side of the circular well, his weight supported by his proper left hand; his proper right leg upraised and resting on the ledge of the well. Further to the right on the plaza is St. Luke the Evangelist, seen seated with proper left foot propped up on a rock and hand cupping his chin. He holds a stylus in his proper right hand, atop tablet balanced on his proper right knee. On the left side of the plaza, St. John is seen squatting with proper left knee raised, writing on a tablet held in his proper left arm.
