The information provided about this artwork was compiled as part of the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Inventories of American Painting and Sculpture database, designed to provide descriptive and location information on artworks by American artists in public and private collections worldwide.
Summary:
A colorful abstract sculpture resembling a scale on a cone-shaped fulcrum. The cone supports a bar upon which is a stack of corrugated, screw-like pieces that resemble a bolt cut into thirds. This outweighs a towering stack of green pyramids encircled by a ring with geometric shapes placed at varius points around the ring. The sculpture is painted with thick, colorful, iridescent paint of various hues: the cone is purple, a bar is light blue, a tree-like piece is green, a bolt-like piece silver, and the cap is a mottled purple and yellow. The sculpture is set in an oval-shaped, raised bed filled with small stones.
