Summary:
Installed on the railroad station's tower is a chest-length figure of a woman with her proper right hand raised to shield her eyes as she looks out across the railroad tracks. She is making a connection with the artist's companion sculpture, "The Seekers" (IAS NY001881), installed on the opposite side of the railroad tracks. In her proper left hand she holds an abstract form -- a silver orb from which angled pipes protrude -- a replica of a mechanical prototype that proved the existence of steam power. The orb symbolizes the future, the search for progress, and the expectation of the modern world. Beneath the figure is a horizontal bar adorned with a group of symbols, including a crown, a miniature train, a cow bell, an oil can, and an antelope head.
