On the proper left, is a Confederate soldier, in uniform and brimmed hat. He holds a rifle in his proper right hand at his side; and salutes with his proper left hand. A sheathed bayonet is attached to his belt on his proper left side. He carries a backpack and rolled up blanket on his belt pack. On the proper right side of the column is a full-length female figure dressed in classical dress and barefoot. She holds a wreath in her proper left hand at her side. The column is decorated with reliefs of crossed rifles and sabers and a wreath and the dates 1861-1865 appear in raised letters near the bottom.
