Summary:
General Nathaniel Lyon is mounted on a horse, while a soldier stands on his proper right. The figures and horse are depicted against a rocky background. The sculpture is mounted on two levels of a massive three-stepped base featuring ornate corner work and a large, bronze, inscribed plaque dominating the front. On the back of the base is another bronze plaque with a low-relief scene from Camp Jackson of a seated soldier reading a document to a soldier who is leaning on a walking stick. In the background of the plaque are eight soldiers at attention, a tent, and two horses.
