(On base, north side, there is a horizontal model of the sculpture and text in braille and written english:) Miro's Chicago For more than 15 years there were plans to bring a sculpture by Joan Miro, one of the great masters of 20th century art, to the city of Chicago. These plans began to be realized in 1980 when mayor Jane Byrne pledged a donation as a matching gift to build the sculpture. The remainder was raised from corporations, foundations, and individuals. The sculpture, entitled Miro's Chicago was dedicated on the artist's birthday April 20, 1981. Miro donated the design of his work as his present to the city of Chicago. (On base, south side, there is a list of contributors to Miro's Chicago.) unsigned
