Summary:
"Over-life size female figure of an angel atop a granite shaft holds aloft a book inscribed with the date of California's entry into the union (September 8, 1850). The angel stands erect with her arms held straight above her head, holding the book with both hands. At the shaft's base, a young miner, pick on shoulder, armed with a six-shooter, waves an American flag. The miner holds the pick on his proper right shoulder and holds the flag aloft with his proper left arm. Water fountains (inactive) are located on the right and left sides of the base."
