A full-length portrait of Father Jacques Marquette, seen standing wearing an ankle-length robe and heavy cape which he grasps at his side with his proper left hand. He holds a map in his proper right hand. The sides of the base, on which the statue stands, have relief plaques showing Marquette's explorations. In one plaque, done in high relief, Marquette stands atop rocks before a group of Indians. Tepees are seen in the background. The relief on the other side of base shows three men in a canoe.
