Summary:
"A larger than life-size portrait bust of Johns Hopkins crowns the central marble pylon. Seated in marble chairs at each side of this pylon are two allegorical figures. On Johns Hopkins' proper left side is a female figure. She is covered in drapery only on her lower torso and holds a bowl in her proper right hand which rest on her proper right leg. Around this arm curls a snake. A laurel wreath is in her hair. She is said to represent healing and the Hospital. The male figure is seated, drapery flows from his waist downward, his proper right leg crossed over his proper left, his proper left hand holds his chin which is tilted downward in a contemplative pose. He holds a book and a scroll is open across his lap. He is said to represent knowledge and the University.
