Left to right: William Loren Batt (1916-2004), Vice-President of International Supply, War Production Board; Dr. Robert M. Gates, President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); Edward Frederick Lindley Wood,1st Earl of Halifax (1881-1959), British Ambassador to the United States, 1941-1946; Dr. Harvey Nathaniel Davis (1881-1952), President, Stevens Institute of Technology; and Dr. Arthur Clifford Hartley (1889-1960), member of the Council of the British Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Davis was receiving a certificate of honorary membership in the British Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Gates was president of ASME in 1944-1945.
