Summary:
Luncheon and presentation from Secretary S. Dillon Ripley to Dr. Fred Lawrence Whipple, Director of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, in honor of his Career Service Award from the National Civil Service League. The luncheon was held at the National Museum of History and Technology (NMHT), now known as the National Museum of American History, with former Secretary Leonard Carmichael, Mary Livingston Ripley, and Assistant Secretary for Science David Challinor also in attendance.
