Summary:
Consists of records which document the funding, development, research, and design of exhibitions produced by the Division of Information Technology and Society and its predecessors at the National Museum of American History. Particularly well documented is the exhibition "Science in American Life" which opened in 1994 and whose chief curator was Arthur P. Molella, Chair of the Department of the History of Science and Technology, as well as photographic history collection exhibitions. Staff respresented in these records include curators Paul Forman, Arthur P. Molella, Lester Clark Lewis, Bernard S. Finn, Alexander J. Wedderburn, and Eugene Ostroff; assistant curator David Haberstich; museum technician Elliott Hawkins; and photo specialist Peter Liebhold. Some records date to from when the curators were part of the former Division of Graphic Arts and the Division of Graphic Arts and Photography, and also from when the museum was known as the Museum of History and Technology and the National Museum of History and Technology. Additionally, some records date to when the division was part of the United States National Museum. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, notes; reports; meeting agendas and minutes; scripts, contracts; loan agreements; exhibitions proposals; evaluations; budget summaries; design submittals; floor plans; drawings; photographs and negatives; symposium information; newspaper clippings; brochures; exhibition catalogs; audiotapes; videotapes; motion picture film; videodiscs; and supporting documentation. Some materials are in electronic format.
