E-mail from Shawn Johnstone to James A. Steed, June 1, 2005, citing a statement by Carla Borden, a former staff member, that closure occurred in 1992
The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies was formed in 1987 from the earlier Office of Symposia and Seminars. That office had in turn been created in 1974 from the Office of Seminars. The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies created opportunities for diverse audiences to discuss global concerns and debate significant issues in contemporary life. In the course of its work it produced symposia, seminars, books, and educational materials. The office was closed in 1992.
The Director of the Office was Wilton S. Dillon, 1987-1988, and Chair, 1989. Carla M. Borden was Acting Director, 1988, as was Ross B. Simons in 1990. Borden also served as Associate Director, 1987, and Senior Program Specialist, 1988.
