Consists of records that document the Smithsonian Institution's administration, management, and study of the Barney Studio House in Washington, DC, during the tenures of Smithsonian American Art Museum Directors Joshua Charles Taylor, 1970-1981; Harry Lowe (acting), 1981-1982; Charles C. Eldredge, 1982-1988; and Elizabeth Broun, 1989- . The home, designed by Waddy B. Wood, served as the Washington residence of art patron and painter, Alice Pike Barney (1857-1931). Materials include correspondence, memoranda, studies, reports, blueprints, inventories, and related materials.
