The Division of Information Technology and Society was created as part of a reorganization of the National Museum of American History in 1995. The Division dedicates its collections and scholarship to a broader understanding of information technologies and their role in American history. In 2006 the division was renamed the Division of Information Technology and Communications. As a result of a museum reorganization, the division was abolished and staff were moved to the Division of Medicine and Science and the Division of Culture and the Arts.
