Consists of records documenting the budgetary activities of the Office of the Under Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution during the tenures of Robert Angus Brooks; Michael Collins; Phillip S. Hughes; Dean W. Anderson; Carmen E. Turner; Alan Maxwell Fern; and Constance B. Newman. Materials include correspondence and memoranda; meeting minutes; budget proposals and submissions; contracts; audit reports prepared by Anna B. Martin, Executive Director to the Under Secretary; quarterly budget reviews; and working papers. Records created prior to 1971 were created in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and in the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary during the tenures if John L. Keddy, and James C. Bradley.
