Consists of records documenting administrative and program-oriented activities of the Office of Public Services during the tenures of Josiah O. Hatch, Director and Assistant Director, 1980-1984; Lonn Taylor, Deputy Assistant Director and Assistant Director, 1984- ; Harold A. Closter, Production Director, Program Manager, and Duputy Assistant Director, 1983- ; Bernice Johnson Reagon, Director of the Program in Black American History, 1983-1987; James Merle Weaver, Director of Performance Programs, 1983-1986; Shirley E. Cherkasky, Coordinator of Museum Programs, 1983- ; Elizabeth M. Sharpe, Education Specialist and Deputy Assistant Director for Public Programs, 1985- ; and Manuel J. Melendez, Performing Arts Production Specialist, 1984-1991. Some records predating 1983 were created the Division of Performing Arts.
Materials include staff correspondence and memoranda pertaining to fund raising, social history lectures and seminars, budget, educational outreach proposals, and grant information; meeting minutes; research material; exhibition scripts, blueprints, and photographs; tour outlines; publication drafts, research files, contracts, negatives, and correspondence; videotapes and audiotapes of lectures and performances; and brochures, articles, and newspaper clippings on Museum special events.
