Summary:
Consists of records documenting the administration and activities of the Neotropical Lowland Research Program (formerly known as the Amazon Ecosystem Research Program). Initially, the Program was administered out of the office of the Assistant Secretary for Science under David Challinor; and later by the office of the Assistant Secretary for Research, Robert S. Hoffmann. The office was renamed Assistant Secretary for the Sciences in 1992, and Assistant Provost for the Sciences in 1995. The program concluded under the direction of the National Museum of Natural History Office of the Director in 2004. Numerous scientists participated in the Program as investigators. Investigators included: Terry L. Erwin; W. Ronald Heyer; Warwick Kerr; Mark M. Littler; Betty Jane Meggers; James N. Norris; Paul Slud; Thomas R. Soderstrom; Marilyn Weitzman; Stanley H. Weitzman; Richard L. Zusi; and Richard P. Vari. Materials include correspondence; memoranda; reports; budget proposals; project records of various investigators; and background information files.
