Summary:
Consists of correspondence and memoranda documenting the administration of the National Museum of American History under Directors Frank A. Taylor, 1958-1964; John Canfield Ewers, 1964-1965; Robert P. Multhauf, 1966-1968; Daniel J. Boorstin, 1969-1973; Brooke Hindle, 1974-1978; Brent Glass, 2002-2011; and John Gray, 2012-2018. Included is correspondence and memoranda with educational institutions, government agencies, professional associations, prominent individuals in the field of the history of science and technology, and Museum service divisions concerning cooperative programs, activities and special events of the Museum, Museum policies, and the organization and planning of the Museum. Also included is correspondence with American and foreign museums and museum associations concerning cooperative programs and the museum profession. Some materials are in electronic format. Records predating 1958 partially cover the administration of Remington Kellogg as Director of the United States National Museum, 1948-1962.
