Notes:
Eduard Hackel (1850-1926), botanist, was born in Haida, Bohemia. Hackel attended the Polytechnical School in Vienna from 1865 to 1869, and taught botany from 1869 to 1900. Hackel's botanical interests centered on grasses, especially the family Festuca and the taxonomy of Gramineae. He was the first botanist to discover the function of lociculae in flowering grasses.
