William Leffingwell was Born in Norwich, Conn., September 28th, 1765. He received his Bachelor's degree at Yale College, in 1786. Mr. Leffingwell very early engaged in mercantile pursuits and resided for the most part, in New York, till the year 1809. At this time he established himself permanently in New Haven. He died October 23d, 1834, in the 69th year of his age. Mr. Leffingwell always took a deep interest in the prosperity of Yale College. His contributions for its aid, at different times, in memory and lands, are estimated at $4,500. This portrait was executed by N. Jocelyn. [P. 19.]
