"Born in Philadelphia, Pa., 1863. Was a pupil of his father, Edward Moran, of S.J. Ferris, of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and the National Academy of Design, New York. Studied in France nearly three years. Was awarded the first Hallgarten Prize ($300) for his picture, 'Divided Attention,' in the National Academy exhibition of 1886." [P. XLIV.]
