"awarded a prize of $2,500 at the first competitive prize fund exhibition, of the American Art Association, New York, April, 1885, after becoming the property of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts on account of Boston contributions to the prize fund." [P. 18; illustration depicts a small boat with billowing sails being buffeted by strong winds and rough waves. In the background can be seen a lighthouse standing at the entrance to a harbor. In the lower left hand corner is a signature.]
