This was the man who, in 1579, imprisoned Tasso for seven years in Sant'Anna, a mad-house at Farrara. This painting was procured by the present owners from Count Columbo (a descendant of Christopher Columbus) who recently entered the priesthood. Its genuineness and authenticity cannot well be doubted. [P. 12.]
