"The colouring rich, and at the same time clear and transparent, and the figures full of sweetness and dignity. The expression is very fine and light, extremely well managed, and the whole of a beautiful effect. Painted by Domenichino, who was born at Bologna, 1581, died 1644." [P. 32.]
