an allegorical painting. By an American lady, at Paris. America is represented as a youthful warrior, grasping in his hand the national standard, drawing in a triumphal car by four horses abreast, followed by victory, holding over his head the crown of laurel--an eagle is seen hovering over the car, which is surrounded by the muses, hailing the conquerer with music, incense and flowers--he is preceded by banners and trophies of war. To the left is the figure of Britannia, with the olive branch, receiving the treaty from the hands of Minerva and Hercules. Fame with her trumpet points to the names of the American heroes, which history is inscribing on a monument. the back ground represents the capitol at Washington. This picture proves that genius of the highest order is not confined to the male sex. [Pp. 1-2.]
