The portrait, by Stewart, of this city, which bears the Blue Ribbon, is one of the happiest efforts of this artist. The subject is a man in shirt sleeves leaning on a table, on which are a bottle and glass, the latter nearly full of wine (or something else.) He is smoking a pipe which he has just removed from his mouth, and the face is turned round to the observer. There is perfect freedom and naturalness in this attitude, and the details are elaborated in clear and harmonious colors. [P. 46.]
