There are only two entries of statuettes in marble, clay or plaster. One by J. Maccauley, of St. Louis, and the other, one of Roger's charming works, exhibited by Pettes & Leathe. The subject of the latter is Rip Van Winkle at home, and the details are finished with so much delicacy and truth that the group has a most animated aspect; the character of the quaint old Dutchman being graphically worked in the face of the central figure. The only other entry represents that famous game of euchre in which the "Heathen Chinee" participated and with such remarkable results, that Bret Harte has done it into song with great success. The scene, however, in the statuette is before the denouement, caused by "Ah Sin" playing "A game he did not understand."
