"The Welcome and Unwelcome Visitor." A young man, accompanied by his dog, is visiting the cottage of his lady love. She is seated under the rustic porch, and he half kneels at her feet, the pair apparently being in deep confabulation. In the door a cat is depicted with the head arched in evident indignation at the dog, which, seated on the ground, is watching Madame Puss with active attention, and there is indication of fierce hostilities near at hand. This is a European picture, and is animated and vigorous, if a little old-fashioned in style. [Pp. 80-81.]
