Paul Veronese.--The Marriage in Cana of Galilee. This painting is the original finished study of the great painting in the Louvre by Paul Veronese which is about 26 feet in length by 12 feet in height, . . . The study differs from the great painting in many important points; in the colouring of the study, red predominates and the other colours harmonize with it, whereas in the great painting the colours all harmonize with blue, which is the prevailing colour; . . . an extra figure in the study is introduced amongst the attendants on the balustrade, the arrangement of the plate against the columns is entirely different in each picture, and the viands on the dishes are different, the statue in the study stands clear of the column and the colouring of nearly every figure is different, &c. . . . This picture . . . was purchased in Italy, by Jean Baptiste Boucheron the director of the Museum in Turin in the beginning of this century, for General Marcy, . . . An actual photograph of the Louvre Painting is submitted and a photograph of an engraving finished in watercolors of the great painting in the Louvre authenticated by Messrs. Goupil & Co., of Paris, by whose firm it was executed. [P. 16.]
