"The Original Sketch" of this artist's great picture in the Capitol at Washington. A party of wayworn emigrants have just gained the summit of a hill, from which stretches out before them an almost endless vista of the Great West. The various attitudes of delight and expressions of animation and hopefulness are sketched with a masterly hand. [P. 405; exhibited under heading: "Paintings."]
