The water and banks as described by the navigator in his journal. R.W. Weir, N.A. This gentleman, (a native of New-York,) proved himself a painter before visiting Europe. He studied in Italy, the land of former artists, which he visited in 1824, at the age of 21, and since his return he has given ample proof of the industrious culture of fine talents. The Academy for drawing, at West Point, is now under his direction. (See His. of Arts of Des.) [P. 6.]
Catalogue. Descriptive, Biographical and Historical, of the Exhibition of Select Paintings, by Modern Artists, principally American, and living, under the Direction of a Committee of Amateurs. The Paintings borrowed for this particular purpose from friends to the arts. At the Stuyvesant Institute, for four weeks only from the day of opening, Nov. 19, 1838. New York: Printed by G.P.
