N.A. This picture, which is unfinished, was designed for a chapel dedicated to St. Paul. The apostle is represented addressing the Athenians on Mars Hill, and speaking the words, "Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship him declare I unto you." The aim is to indicate more generally an apostle, than the author of the Pauline books; more decidedly the man of individual value, than the man of theological culture. Thus interpreted, it may be seen that the aim was to avoid the idea of an Athenian philosopher. [P. 5.]
