"We visited in upper Bavaria the Konigsee, a lake at the foot of the Watzmann Mountain, 9,100 feet in height. Its magnificent scenery is walled in by perpendicular rocks--the Konigsbach on the east shore falling from a height of 400 feet. An old hunting castle of the King stands on the green foreland of St. Bartholomew, which extends far into the lake. The inlet Alp separates this lake from the source. It is a wild and silent spot, and only the eagle and the chamois inhabit the snow-capped summits."--Letters from Germany. [P. 5.]
