Painted by Josef Ribera, called Spagnoletto, who was born at Xativa near Valentia in Spain, in 1589, and passed great part of his life at Naples, where he was celebrated for his fine pictures of martyrs, saints, and old men emaciated by abstinence. He died in 1656, aged 67. [P. 5.]
