"E. Hemskirk, born 1610, died 1680. " We see here a family assembled around a barrel, capped with a dish of muscles for their supper, over which one, with cap in hand, is saying grace, and the expression of those who are listening, and eyeing their homely feast, with a degree of impatience, is truly admirable; the whole is in good drawing, grouping, and effect. " The background group of boors gambling, is finely contrasted; and the one looking aside to this pious family tells plainly what gambelrs think of morality and religion. This little picture is so well described in the history of E. Hemskirk the old, thatit will repay the purchaser to read it, in Pilkington's dictionary of painters. - Great value has always been set on this little gem." [P. 20.]
