"Painter and architect. Born at Kralinger Ambacht, in 1659; died at Rotterdam, in 1772. Pupil of Cornelis Picolett and of Eglon Van Der Neer. 122. Leda. H. 18 1/2 in.; W. 13 3/4 in. his pictures enjoyed an immense reputation during his life, and enormous sums were paid for them, but this reputation has not been sustained, his surfaces resembling too much ivory or porcelain. The 'Leda' comes from the celebrated Dlelessert Gallery." [P. 49.]
