"Born at Mechlin in 1578; died at Amsterdam, in 1629. Flemish school. 18. Summer. H. 8 5/8 in.; W. 11 in. These two charming pictures are in the best style of this distinguished painter. " The deep blue of the backgrounds in the precious works of velvet Brueghel and D. Vinckeboons has been censured by ill-informed critics; but it is a serious error to attribute this effect as a fault to the artists. It proceeds from the absorption of the yellows by the colors with lead basis, which they unfortunately used." [P. 17; note refers to serials 05500018 and 05500019.]
